...Day 3...

Well, today was a bit rough around the edges...my alarm clock did not go off. So, we did an abbreviated day. While on a field trip, I am teaching the children how to plan a Gala, Fayeth was eating her mini corn dog and she picked the entire breading off. She is holding it up, looking at it and says.... It is naked and small... It looks like a PENIS! Of course the timing of our waitress was impeccable because she was there. My mom and I near fell over we were laughing so hard. After a bit of a discussion how we should not loudly proclaim that her mini corn dog nugget looks like a penis in public...we went about our day. I chose to use our chat as science. So that helps....

Day 2

Last night Lindsay informed me that since she had time to think about it, she did not think that I would dunk her head into the toilet since she had incision on her head and I had not cleaned the toilet that day. I filed that piece of knowledge for later use...

...Day 2 began and again Lindsay was not wanting to get up. She had been up and down all night due to high pressure symptoms. Lindsay informs me when I went to wake her that she was NOT getting up she was tired and she planned on staying in bed. I have issues about people who let their kids with pain/pain issues/health sleep their life away. This is the life that God gave you, you need to get off your ass and live it. Yes you hurt, but there is ALWAYS someone else who hurts worse. But I decided not to go there with Lindsay. I smiled at her and said, "Well, I scrubbed the toilet already this morning. I will be back in 3 minutes to see if you have changed your mind. I am finishing up making breakfast." Before I could make it back to the kitchen I heard a certain little girl make her way to the bathroom.

Today has been another extremely productive day. Hopefully the entire year will be like this, but I am not expecting so. Today is a day that I cannot understand why more parents would not want to home school. To see the look on your child's face when they grasp a concept. To share in their successes first handedly. I love this. I love these kids. They are amazing. I just don't understand why more people would not want to do this. It is amazing.

We have opted to start Monday with 3 subjects, Tuesday with 3, Wednesday and Thursday we will add the 4th and 5th subject, Friday the 6th and 7th. It is a good transition for us.

For spelling we are using Spelling Power. It is an amazing program.

Grammar/Language we are using Simply Grammar and Abeka Language

Math we are using Rocket Math to help with the speedy recall. Math seems to be an area when their pressure is off that they tend to loose the first and most of. We are also using Math U See. That in itself is an awesome program.

Writing we are using handwriting without tears.

Science-I am writing the curriculum

Social Studies I am writing the curriculum using some from Abeka and Usborne.

Reading Comprehension I am writing.

How to win the Mommy of the Year award....

This morning a certain 8 year old female who resides in my home decided to be particularly crabby about waking up and getting motivated for the day. They have known for 2 weeks that today was going to begin our new school year. After a VERY LONG TIME of trying to get her moving, I decided to drag her into her bathroom, plopped her (gently) in front of her toilet and I told her in no uncertain terms that she had better get motivated very quickly or I was going to dunk her head into the toilet.

Said threat had positive results and she started her morning routine. :)

Otherwise day 1 of school was extremely productive and we are very happy with the curriculum.

Perhaps Day 2 will start out more smoothly for the girl.

2010

As I write this, if you listen closely you will hear my very close friend's head exploding. ;) Okay...just joking. However this year I am changing our teaching style to a more structured day. Today I have been doing some assessments today and from here I will be working on tweaking our "lesson plans". I have to be a little more structured for when we go to the hospital. It is hard to give lesson plans over the phone.

This week will all be about assessments, and figuring out what and where we need to focus on, ect. My goal to start a more structured school date is August 16th. This should all us to get into a good routine before dance starts. We will be at the studio for 12 hours a week this year, not including Nutcracker rehearsals.

This blog will be my record where I can document progress, experiments and other field trips and fun things that we do.

Homeschooling

Today is one of those days that I would be grateful to send my kids off to school and let someone else deal with them. However, then I would have to deal with educating the teachers, the principal, bus drivers, volunteers and so on. Then I realize it is not worth it. Keep them home where they can have meds, breaks, ect to make our day more productive.

Today is a hard day. Lindsay is having a hard to focus day. Her pressure appears to be high. She is writing a LOT backwards. Gabe is having a rough day. Pain is high, his head hurts and I am remembering the joys of all of this. LOL

I love my children so very much. I wish God would give me more patience to deal with them when they are having bad days. Days like today reminds me of the days before we had to deal with Chiari/PTC/Dysautonomia/Craniosynostosis. *sigh*

I get sad when I see people who do not appreciate their children's abilities. The fact that they have no health issues. People who make mole hills out of a small piece of sand.
